The northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) can be found in central and eastern North America as well as portions of Central America. It has 18 subspecies. Females are of redish olive colour while males, shown on the stamp, are bright red. It feeds on seeds, fruit, insects and snails. It is the official state bird of seven states of the USA.

The blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a species of corvid that can be found in central and eastern North America. Some populations are migratory. It has four subspecies. It is omnivorous feeding on seeds, nuts, fruit, insects and other invertebrates.

The evening grosbeak (Hesperiphona vespertina) is a vulnerable species found in North America. It is migratory and it has five subspecies. It eats seeds, berries, the sap of maple trees and insects.

This 2016 sheetlet from Canada shows a rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta), a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), a northern raven (Corvus corax), an Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica) and a sharp-tailed grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus).

The first one, an arctic game bird , changes colour from winter (white) to summer (brown). Here is depicted in its winter plumage. It can be found in northern Europe, areas of Asia and North America. It has 23 subspecies. It feeds mainly on plant material.

The great horned owl is native to America. It hunts rabbits, skunks and various species of rodents, birds, reptiles etc. Due to its wide distribution, it has a number of subspecies.

The northern or common raven is the most widely distributed corvid and it is also has a big number of sub-species. It is an omnivorous bird.

The atlantic or common puffin, native to the Atlantic ocean, lives in colonies. It feeds on small fish, crabs and zooplankton. The IUCN lists the species as vulnerable.

Finally, the sharp-tailed grouse, another game bird, is distributed in Canada and in parts of the USA. It has seven sub-species, one of which is extinct. It feeds on seeds, insects, leaves, berries etc.

Snow or Blue Goose (Chen caerulensces): It breeds in Greenland, Canada and Alaska and it migrates to warmer parts of USA and to Mexico. It feeds on grain and it has two subspecies.
Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias): It can be found in wetlands and shores of open water in West Indies, Galapagos Islands and North and Central America. It has five subspecies. It feeds on small fish, shrimps, crabs, aquatic insects, small birds, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Spruce Grouse (Falcipennis canadensis): This medium-sized grouse lives in coniferous forests in Alaska and Canada. It feeds on conifer needles, insects, berries and green plants.
Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus): It is a large owl native to the Americas. It has about 13 subspecies. It hunts medium-sized mammals and birds and sometimes amphibians, insects, fish, reptiles and crustaceans.

Red-breasted Mergansed (Mergus serrator) is a diving duck. It lives in freshwater rivers and lakes in northern North America, Asia, Europe and Greenland. It is a migratory and game bird. It feeds on small fish, aquatic insects, crustaceans and frogs.

American Black Duck (Anas rubripes) is a dabbling duck. It lives in North America and it is partially migratory. It is also a game bird. It feeds by dabbling in shallow water and grazing on land. It eats plants, aquatic insects and molluscs.

It is a migratory and game bird. It dives for aquatic insects, crustaceans and pond vegetation. It is named after Sir John Barrow.
